Murph’s Behind-the-Back Toss
by Jose's Chin Pubes | July 9th, 2009Girlfriend O’ The Stache Emily and I had quite the fun outing at Citi Field last night; K-Rod made it interesting at the end, but it was an all-around clean win for the Mets who edged the Dodgers 5-4. D-Wright had two key hits (still no mustache), and we sold a bunch of Wright Stache t-shirts after the game by the subway entrance, our sales no doubt helped by the Mets’ win and Wright’s strong day. We even took some funny photos on the subway with some newly-converted Wright Stachians (more on this later).
But the night belonged to 1B Daniel Murphy with his unbelievable behind-the-back toss to Brian Parnell to nail a runner in a bang-bang play at 1st base. Citi was going nuts; the dudes at OhMurph.com must’ve been ecstatic! Here it is:
Wow. Only play I can remember with that kind of acrobatic work in recent Mets history was our own D-Wright’s bare-handed grab going into left field a few years back. Amazing play!
George Brett Poos His Pants
by Jose's Chin Pubes | June 24th, 2009This has nothing to do with David Wright or mustaches… I’m not even sure it’s real. But holy hell is it funny. George Brett has a story to tell and just can’t hold himself back, despite the visible disinterest of his teammates. Enjoy.
Who’s the pitchers in this game?
Long Island Wants to Secede from New York
by Jose's Chin Pubes | June 17th, 2009With all due respect to my good friends from Long Island (including Mr. Hairy Backman and Mr. Teuffel Stubble, as well as my mom and like, everyone ever) this is some of Jon Stewart’s best work to date. The fact that Long Island wants to secede from New York is funny enough, but The Daily Show takes it to the next level.

The Wright Stache on Mets Weekly
by Teufel Stubble | June 8th, 2009The Wright Stache on Mets Weekly from The Wright Stache on Vimeo.
A few weeks ago, the good folks at Mets Weekly saw fit to feature your favorite mustache aficionados on SNY’s magazine series. We convened at the Mets Clubhouse Shop at Bryant Park to discuss the site, the Mets and, of course, mustaches. In case you missed it when it aired, here, in all it’s glory, is The Wright Stache on Mets Weekly.
Special thanks to Max Siegal and the Tupelo Honey Productions team for making the magic happen.
Bud Light Real Men of Genius: Mr. Handlebar Mustache Wearer
by Jose's Chin Pubes | May 14th, 2009It takes a real fashion pioneer to know some things never go out of style. Chew on that, David.
I’m Keith Hernandez
by Teufel Stubble | May 4th, 2009I’m Keith Hernandez from water&power on Vimeo.
How have we missed this for so long? “I’m Keith Hernandez” is a film by Rob Perri and it is, quite simply, magnificent. Rather than fail at doing it justice, I’ll let the film’s official website tell you what you need to know:
Part baseball documentary, part anti drug film, part socio-political satire, I’M KEITH HERNANDEZ utilizes a version of Hernandez life as a vehicle to discuss how male identity is shaped by TV/film, sports, advertising, and pornography.
But it gets better. I took a keen interest in the short film after reading that “as part of this discourse, the physical attribute of the mustache is explored as a symbol of male virility.” Sign me up!
The whole film is available to watch online. It’s embedded right into this post for your convenience. Do yourself a favor and set aside 20 minutes of your day (preferable while you are at work) to watch it. Seriously. It will be the single greatest thing you do all week.
Thanks to friend o’ the stache Derrick Yuen for the heads up.
(Ed. note: The film is SFW, but there is some footage from an adult film that, while properly concealed, probably isn’t your boss’ cup of tea.)
SNY’s Keith Hernandez Day Promo
by Hairy Backman | April 30th, 2009From AdFreak via Yahoo’s Big League Stew, this SNY promo clip of a fictional “Keith Hernandez Day” is simply brilliant. And of course, we love the fact that Yahoo’s ‘Duk is making the connection between David’s plate-woes and David’s lack-o-stache. We can’t say we disagree. Because we don’t.
So is this an indication that Metstache-fever is spreading quicker than the Swine Flu? With the repeated showings of our Mets Weekly segment on Citi Field’s Diamond Vision, along with this SNY produced clip…we’re thinking yes. Here it is:
’90s Baseball Stache Highlights
by Jose's Chin Pubes | April 22nd, 2009Whilst trawling YouTube for my usual daily fix of mustache related fun, I came upon this video highlighting famous baseball staches of the early ’90s through a look back at baseball cards from the era. This is all well and good until the would-be filmmaker describes the mustache trend of early ’90s baseball players as “disturbing.” Absent from the list are any Mets, but we’ll forgive the poor chap for being from the South. The camera’s out of focus the entire time, too.
Come to think of it, this video sucks. It attempts to bring shame upon the ’stache, but we are above such tomfoolery. So watch it… or don’t.
Giambi Says Ladies Love the Stache
by Jose's Chin Pubes | April 10th, 2009We’re not fans of Jason Giambi’s mustache ’round The Wright Stache HQ; the way we see it, mustaches represent dignity and shouldn’t be grown for dares and jokes. But in an interview conducted by Eqsuire last fall and sent in to TWS by LadyStache, Giambi had some pretty worthwhile tips for a would-be whisker grower, including the process of growing it in and the reaction of the opposite sex — the latter of which is an issue we surmised the young, studly David might be concerned:
Interviewer: Probably the most important question, how have the ladies reacted to it?
Giambi: It’s been unbelievable, they absolutely love it, which I can’t believe. I’m almost in that category of molester to porn-star, so it’s… like I said, people absolutely love it. I think people look at it like ‘this guy’s got enough balls to actually grow a mustache.’”
So there you go, David. Be a man. Grow some balls. The ladies will love you even more.

You Belong to the City
by Teufel Stubble | April 10th, 2009
You Belong to the City from 1986 Mets: A Year to Remember from The Wright Stache on Vimeo.
Nothing helps you get through the homestretch of a Friday afternoon like a bonus edition of 1986 Mets: A Year to Remember theater! You’ve gotten dirty with the Wild Boys, given your teammates the hot foot and witnessed a rock solid man-on-man relationship. And now comes a video that celebrates the entire 1986 Mets team.
Watch as the Mets become the toast of New York. Gasp as you see how many magazine covers they graced (who decided to include WWOR broadcaster Tim McCarver twice in the montage?). Giggle when you catch Ray Knight subtly give a TV camera the finger. The Mets belonged to the city. And this sax riff belongs to the ages.
It’s almost time to slide down the dinosaur’s neck and call it a weekend. Hang in there, baby!
Hot Foot

Hot Foot from 1986 Mets: A Year to Remember from The Wright Stache on Vimeo.
Yesterday, we gave you the sound and fury that is the Wild Boys segment in 1986 Mets: A Year to Remember.
Today, we take an educational turn as Roger McDowell and a young (yet balding and mustachioed) Howard Johnson teach us how to give our teammates a hot foot. Don’t know what a hot foot is? Well, grab a cigarette, a book of matches, some bubblegum and get ready to be the funniest guy in your office. And, after watching the video, this blog will make more sense.
Enjoy Roger’s culturally sensitive comic stylings, HoJo’s unbridled enthusiasm and other amazingness.
Wild Boys

Wild Boys from 1986 Mets: A Year to Remember from The Wright Stache on Vimeo.
The Wright Stache recently received a copy of 1986 Mets: A Year to Remember from our dear friend Nerdzah Ball Soup at Nerd Baseball. He converted the VHS to DVD and, well, I could not be happier. After a proper viewing last night, I began the task of slicing it up into segments. I’ll be sharing some gems with you in the coming days and weeks, but one clip deserved to be first.
Ladies and gentlemen, with the help of Duran Duran, I give you a profile of the gritty play of Wally Backman and Lenny Dykstra in a segment that Sports Channel and Rainbow Home Video call “Wild Boys.”
Enjoy.
A Wright Stache is an American Stache

It’s time that we looked beyond statistics. Beyond baseball. Beyond “jokes” and “nonsense.” If David Wright is going to grow a mustache, we’re going to need to speak to his character. He’s going to grow it because he’s a patriot. A leader of men. An American.
Noted political pundit Stephen Colbert was discussing a story about French kidnapping recently when he noted that America is the world leader in proper stache growing. While one could make arguments for the staches of India, the Middle East and all of Latin America, you have to acknowledge that American staches are noble like the bald eagle. But not bald. They’re hairy. Because they are made of hair.
Anyways, good to see more stache coverage on a national level. All the better for making David more comfortable with his future ascension to stache prominence.
Listen to Ron Kuby’s Interview with TWS’s Teufel Stubble

The Wright Stache on Doing Time with Ron Kuby from The Wright Stache on Vimeo.
I had the honor and privilege of representing The Wright Stache team on Air America’s Doing Time with Ron Kuby yesterday. Ron and I riffed on a wide range of topics including mustaches, the Mets and this Mets-based mustache website. I followed a Wall Streat Journal columnist and a Nobel Laureate. Needless to say, mine was the educational segment.
Since I assume you are all visual learners, you can listen to the interview while staring at the beautiful mugs that Ron and I possess.
Happy, Friday. Let’s make it a good one.
Sad Stache
by Teufel Stubble | April 1st, 2009
The artist truly captured Bobby's "Suck Period."
April Fools’ Day seems like the right time to address a sad chapter in Metstache history (seeing as we’ve been acting a little cheeky today). A Metstache we wish we hadn’t better known. A stache who, like Grover Cleveland, served two non-consecutive terms. Ladies, gentlemen and mustaches, let’s talk about Bobby Bonilla.
Bobby signed with the Mets in December of 1992 for a then whopping 5 years and $29 million dollars. He was to be the centerpiece of the Mets resurgence after seeing their 1980s glory days fade away like so many acid washed denim jackets. Mets fans were filled with optimism as a new decade of success seemed to be on the horizon. Little did we know that Bobby (and his stache) would prove to be the exception to the stache rule. The Wright Stache Theme Song
by Teufel Stubble | March 30th, 2009
The Wright Stache Theme from The Wright Stache on Vimeo.
Every movement worth its salt has a theme. A rallying cry. An anthem. And now The Wright Stache has one of its very own. Dan Weiss was so moved by The Wright Stache inspirational video that he wrote and recorded our theme song. Bradley Werner was so motivated by Dan’s tune that he edited a new video for us. And Derrick Yuen was so swayed by my offer of free whiskey that he worked on the special effects (read: bouncing mustache). And just like that, The Wright Stache Theme song and video were born.
Commit the lyrics to memory, kids. We’ll be singing this li’l diddy together all season long!
And a very special thanks to everyone who worked on this project (yes, even you, Vin Fiorillo).
How to Grow a Mustache
by Teufel Stubble | March 27th, 2009
Not pictured: Pedaphile
Friend o’ the Stache Sarah Harris Weiss, Esq. wrote in with a rather good point. We may have jumped to a massive conclusion here at The Wright Stache and it looks like we need to take a quick step back to address this snafu. We skipped the 101 class and jumped immediately into the advanced levels. What I’m trying to say is, David may have no clue about how to get started with his maiden whisker voyage.
As Sarah noted in her email,
I think that maybe you should have a post about how to grow a moustache, in case David is reading and is unsure how to begin.
Brilliant idea, Sarah.
It’s simple, really. Just follow this useful advice. Read more »
The Abdul Stache
by Teufel Stubble | March 26th, 2009You wouldn’t think that The Wright Stache and American Idol would ever cross paths. I mean, if it was Mustache Idol, we’d get on board. But, last night the worlds of The Wright Stache and American Idol briefly intersected orbits.
Fantastic friend o’ the stache, Dan Weiss, gave us the heads up that apparently this Simon Cowell fella drew a mustache on that drunk lady. I’m still confused as to why MC Skat Kat wasn’t there, but I guess I’m just out of the loop.
Anyways, it’s been another delightful day in The Wright Stache neighborhood. Tomorrow’s Friday, so we’ll be here to get you through the last day of your work week. Do join us.
The Wright Stache Inspirational Video
by Teufel Stubble | March 23rd, 2009
The Wright Stache Inspiration from The Wright Stache on Vimeo.
The Wright Stache is blessed to have some very loyal friends. Friend o’ the stache Bradley Werner took it upon himself to create an official inspirational video for The Wright Stache in advance of the 2009 season. It perfectly captures the spirit and mission of The Wright Stache and will give you chills.
I’ve watched this video 23 times already and my goosebumps (and erection) have yet to subside. Not sure how to explain The Wright Stache to your friends? Forward them Bradley’s video and let it do the talking for you.
Very special thanks to Bradley Werner for creating this masterpiece.
